  • Midtown Place customer review by Michael Morgan

    - Dec 27, 2019

I am from out of town andwas shopping here the day after Christmas. I went across the street for lunch and later discovered that this shopping center immobilized my car with a boot. I had to make a payment of $75 to get the boot removed. They presented false ID indicating that they work for the city of Atlanta police department. They do this to any customer who goes across the street for lunch. I have obtained a picture of their false ID and reported the illegal activity to the police and asked my credit card company to deny payment.

I am from Michigan and was again visiting Atlanta this weekend. Driving down Ponce Street, we noticed the TJMaxx sign in the mall at around 6:55pm. My wife is a longtime TJMaxx customer so we pulled into the lot. We wanted to shop at TJMaxx's, but also wanted to get a bite to eat. We noticed the Ponce Market and thought that would be a good place to eat. I walked her across the street to the Ponce Market and then I returned for a quick visit to TJ's to check on a product and confirm their closing time. I ran back to Ponce to get a quick bite around 7:10. She and I returned to TJ's within the hour and spent until 9pm shopping in the store. We made our purchases and returned to our car to find the boot on our car. Dekarrius explained the ruling to me when he arrived to remove the boot. He explained the signs positioned throughout the parking lot. Indeed, I had read the top portion of the sign before I departed for a sandwich at Ponce Market. I read the "CURRENT CUSTOMER" portion to mean that as long as I was a legitimate customer at a mall store, I was legitimately parked in the lot. I did not read the bottom portion which stated that once I left the premises, I was no longer a customer. So, admittedly, I violated the rule. My dispute, however, is that I was clearly a current customer. The TJMaxx store is what compelled me to park in the lot. I was a customer at TJMaxx and I have a receipt to prove it. I am appalled that I would be penalized $75 for being away from the store for less than an hour -- WHEN I ACTUALLY MADE AN HONEST PURCHASE. Consider this: hypothetically if I stayed with my car, I could have sent my wife to the Ponce Market, had her purchase food, had her bring it back to our car, eaten it at the car or a bench in front of TJMaxx, never set foot in one of the Mall's stores and (under your surveillance and policy) NOT been booted because I STAYED with the car. Yet, I made purchases at TJMaxx! I was a customer of TJMaxx and was fined $75. That's not right. I will not return to Midtown Place or TJ's.
